OUR MISSION:

To be a living invitation as an inclusive, loving, faith-inspired and prayerful Christian community
embracing the future, respecting our heritage.

As we prepare for our 190th anniversary in 2026,
we have adopted eight pillars of mission

Our Vestry (Parish Council) commits to exploring and developing these during the church year.

Our "thought starters" are below.

faith development

Creatively incubate faith. Actively explore uncertainty without fear. Discern members of our communities who can lead us in stretching through faith beyond the comfort of our preconceptions. Develop our own instincts for Godliness and the light of Christ when the path is lit only by doubt.

prayerful worship

Under Vicar Chris’ leadership, we will develop the skills of our prayer and worship leaders to envelope our congregation in a seamless devotional environment with clarity of message, gentle purposefulness  and thoughtful assurance of ritual and practice.

community/
outreach

Lean warmly into our community with open arms. Listen and embrace without bias to discern the opportunities that will keenly bring Christ meaningfully into the lives of all.

preservation/
heritage

Acknowledge and respect our significant heritage. Take responsibility for our part in “paying it forward”. Ka mua, ka muri. Continue to tautoko all efforts and consciousness towards our living mission. Raise community awareness of and all necessary support for our unique, unbroken history and relevance.

arts and culture

We will explore and support the God-given creative gifts of artists in our community and encourage their engagement with our church. We encourage and seek korero with marae and other community cultural assets such as the museum, carvers, artists of all media and art galleries.

admin / structure

Our administration and leadership resources will need to reflect our ambitions for mission and actively support our frontline team.

financial health

We will explore and foster engagement with visitors and tourists, providing a pastoral opportunity for faith outreach, while becoming more self-sufficient, growing our ability to nourish our community.

bicentenary

We will prepare to lead our 2036 bicentenary celebrations, preserving and telling our stories with a healthy church embracing the future, respecting our heritage.
